HOWARD ZINN - YOU CAN'T BE NEUTRAL ON A MOVING TRAIN documents the life and times of the historian, activist and author of the best selling classic A People's History of the United States. Featuring rare archival materials, interviews with Howard Zinn as well as colleagues and friends including Noam Chomsky, Marian Wright Edelman, Daniel Ellsberg, Tom Hayden and Alice Walker, YOU CAN'T BE NEUTRAL captures the essence of this activist and thinker who has been a catalyst for progressive change for more than 60 years. As a teacher and writer, Zinn has informed and inspired generations of those who struggle for social and economic justice with hope. His landmark book classic A People's History of the United States, an eye-opening history of the United States from the perspective of the disenfranchised, has sold over one million copies since it was first published in 1980, and amazingly sales continue to increase every year. Now in his eighties, Zinn continues to speak widely to enthusiastic audiences of all ages.

Thursday, 5/1 Noon “NO PEACE – NO WORK”
Join Jobs with Justice and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) for this rally.
At the start of the Iraq War in 2003, many working people were opposed to the invasion. Now the overwhelming majority want to end the war and withdraw the troops.
The war is currently costing over 720 million dollars a day if continued, it could rise into trillions of dollars which could be spent on pressing domestic needs, including universal
health care, job retraining, adequate housing and education.
The international Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has called for a united labor action on May 1, 2008, International Workers Day, to demand an end to the war.
LOCATION: Jack Perry Memorial Park, 1729 Alaska Way South Between Pier 30 and Pacific Maritime Institute
Thursday, 5/1 4 PM IMMIGRANT RIGHTS MARCH AND RALLY

Come tell Congressman Jim McDermott what's on your mind. If you're fed up, or just anxious, give him a strong message to take back to DC!
LOCATION: Rainier Community Center (38th & Alaska, near the Columbia City Post Office).
We also want to invite you to give Seattle a chance to "Divest from War". Please sign the Initiative to this Seattle City Council or help circulate it yourself(seattle@divestfromwar.org). This initiative is directed at divesting from Halliburton for their Iraq War profiteering and at Caterpillar for the armored bulldozers they built for Israel to destroy Palestinian homes. The effect would be to require the City of Seattle to use fund managers who agreed to follow stated guidelines for city pension funds. Divestment from Israeli government bonds is also required in the event of an Israeli attack on Iran.

Abe Osheroff was a keynote speaker at the very first SNOW organizing rally at Garfield High School in 2001 and his words helped galvanize neighborhood communities to come together in nonviolent actions in support of peace and justice - actions which continue across the region today.
